Episode #53 – The Great Nikon/Canon Debate

This week: I’m in conversation once again with photographer/writer Hugh Graham, who was one of my lecturers when I studied photography at University.

It’s the age-old debate among professional photographers – which is better, Canon or Nikon? As you know, I’m a Nikon man; Hugh favours Canon, but we are both agreed that there is far more involved in choosing a camera system than simply seeing which brand is currently leading the market.

Hi Giles, very interesting listening. I’ve never really understood this better than that discussion. Personally I have a Canon 30D (and Powershot G9), before that the first SLR I bought was the Canon EOS 30 in 2004. I visited many camera shops before settling on that to try different bodies from several makers. It felt good in the hand, easy reach of buttons and such, and as you say, was in my price range. The 30D was just a natural progression from that, being almost the same body, apart from a few things and bigger. The most important thing is the lens, as was mentioned at the end. The eye of the camera. Thanks for posting this. Am now following you on twiiter.

Thanks for your comment, Mike, and I’m glad you enjoyed the show. Alas, we are at that point again now, with the release of the Nikon D4, where a lot of people will start getting very gear-envious, fuelling the fire of debate once more! Thanks, too, for following on Twitter – be sure to say hi :)
