When I first accepted this bag for review, I hadn’t seen it ‘in the flesh’ but I did have a very real question I was hoping it might answer. You see, the quandary that a great majority of photographers face when heading outdoors is how to carry both their outdoor kit (waterproofs, flask, lunch, accessories [...]

This week: I’m in conversation once again with photographer/writer Hugh Graham, who was one of my lecturers when I studied photography at University. Perfect Resize 7 is the latest version of what a lot of you will know as Genuine Fractals - a great program, first and foremost, designed for upscaling photographs. Rather than this being one [...]

One of my pet gripes with the way manufacturers design/construct their kit is the way in which they often confuse the concept of ‘adding features’ with ‘over-engineering’ a product. Let’s face it, the camera bag is a simple affair really. A main compartment, a couple of accessory pockets, secure fastening of some sort and a [...]

Before I begin, I want to lay down a few ground rules about this Test/Review. First of all, this is not going to be your typical feature-list, tech-heavy, product worship write-up. It is a frank reflection of my experience using the Fujifilm X100 on occasions throughout the loan period (yes, that’s right, I did have [...]

Snow is forecast this weekend – perfect conditions for Test/Review shenanigans, I say! Could this signal the first outing for these Hi-Tec Altitude IV WPI Enviro boots?

Ok, so a towel may not be the most immediate item of equipment you’d think of when it comes to photography. But of course, when considering location kit (ie, stuff I take with me whilst away on a shoot, whether that’s for a day, several or more), hygiene is as important as cameras. Believe me, [...]

I wouldn’t say I’m a creature of habit, but it is true enough that I don’t tend to change my outdoor kit very often unless there’s a very good reason to do so. If it ain’t broke and all that… For example, the thing I like about my tried-and-tested standard-size Thermarest mat is that it [...]

A very quick post… and a simple observation. As if we could overlook the torrential rain and gale-force winds of recent weeks, I thought I’d take the opportunity to make a quick experiment as my testing of the Kodak PlaySport Zx5 continues. Nothing fancy, nothing clever, a mere demonstration of the camera’s capabilities.

So then, Nikon has finally unveiled D4, much to the delight of photographers and film-makers around the globe. Here are a couple of videos giving something of an overview of the features.

With the countdown to Christmas now under way, a lot of you are going to be thinking about what might make a good stocking-filler for your photography-loving friends and family. The beauty of photography right now is, of course, that it’s so very immediate and so easy to share. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, blogs, websites… the [...]

That’s right – it’s time for another foody review. Ok, so it’s not camera equipment, but as you’ve probably worked out by now, good nutrition whilst on the go is always a priority for me as a photographer. I don’t always have time to grab a decent meal in between shoots, so I’d much rather [...]

Throughout the course of the year, I’ve been extensively testing the Peli 1510 roller case, putting it through a whole range of assignments, conditions and locations. It’s faced everything from the relative safety of being wheeled along railway concourses en route for corporate city assignments, to being thrown in the back of the car and [...]
