As some of you may know, for the past 3 years (up until yesterday, in fact), I have been putting my thoughts and ideas down on a separate, stand-alone blog. This has served me well, but there comes a time when you just ‘know’ that things have to move on.
The GBP Blog was, itself, a natural step along my social media journey – but now it’s time to move things forward one step further. That’s why I have decided to incorporate it into The Active Photographer. And so, to my big announcement for today…
From now on, any written, filmed, photographed or found content that I want to share with you, will be appearing right here.
Yes, you can still follow the links over on the right-hand side, to take you to my other online haunts but… well… think of this as your one-stop shop for all my output.
‘One-stop shop’? Do people even use that phrase anymore?!
So, there you have it – The Active Photographer is evolving, and I’m sure it will be a much a fuller, more vibrant and interesting place to share and communicate with all you lovely people.
Just as always, don’t be shy. I want to see you chip in with your own thoughts, comments and suggestions. So if you can spare just 1 minute to let me know what you want to see or hear, let me know in the comments section below!
Giles,
Would love to see if you’ve found any special gear; gear to really assist the hard working event photographer take the stress off our neck, shoulder and back. I have tried brackets and hip oriented gear but 20 years in…my back takes a beating. I’ve been to many tradeshows in search of the proper gear. Would love to find a well padded harness that helps take some of the weight and made for a woman.
Is that too much to ask? Thanks.
Perhaps a series of blogs about when you go on adventures and what sort of kit you take. You could divide it up into different bits, have a bit where you talk about kit that’s essential, and kit that’s desirable. I read one article by a photographer who seemed to think that we all have several assistants to cart stuff around the mountain for us. Also maybe some different techniques like hyper focal for down hill mountain biking and son.
Hi Michelle,
Thanks for the suggestion – such a simple thing, the humble camera strap… but, as you have found out, making the right selection can have a huge impact on your experience throughout the duration of an event.
I will be writing a couple of reviews/info posts about some straps shortly – which just might provide you with an answer ;)
Will… Great idea – and I’ll be happy to put some posts together about shoot-specific kit selection.
This is an area which is often overlooked and/or misinformed. A lot of photographers cram as much kit as they can into their bags and cases before a shoot, only to find they use just a few select items. Knowledge about what you do or don’t need comes with experience, but the more people who can start to get it right from the start, the better.
