This week: I’m in conversation once again with photographer/writer Hugh Graham, who was one of my lecturers when I studied photography at University.
It’s often been said that photography is a science. But of course, most photographers don’t think of it this way – they invariably think in a visual sense.
Is there a formula for the visual construction to images?
Many, many years ago, Hugh came up with the PICS formula, a way to identify the key elements present the majority of successful news pictures. This is something I picked up on early in my career and it has worked very well for me ever since.
