As I write this, it’s a Friday afternoon. I’m sat in my hammock, nestled comfortably in one of my favourite local woodlands. This spot is not a new discovery; in fact, I’ve been coming here regularly for a long time and it is now my preferred go-to place for ‘location working’ (or my ‘outdoor office’ as some like to call it).
I often talk to people about where it is they go to be productive, to engage their creative thinking, to get some much-needed distance on their day-to-day lives. Well, this is mine – and it is here that I am now setting the scene for a long-overdue shake-up of The Active Photographer website (and all that goes with it, too).
I’m going to hold my hands up and admit that the website has been somewhat neglected of late. Honestly, the whole COVID / lockdown situation, and the disruptions it has brought at home and in business, have had a big impact on my focus and productivity. Some days, it’s been as much as I could do to simply keep ticking along with homeschooling and constant interruptions in the mix alongside restrictions on my day-to-day activities.
As for so many people, it’s been a super-frustrating and stressful time, make no mistake!
But you know what they say – life happens for us, not to us – and having come out the other side of the heaviest of restrictions now, I find myself reflecting upon my priorities and how I can use this platform to once again serve my niche as best I can.
So, what’s the score? Where do I go from here?
Well, in many ways I’m looking to the past for guidance. I know what has worked well over the years (staple areas such as the podcast, Test/Review features etc) and, with the evolution of myself, the industry and the world in general, I can see some great opportunities for rolling out new / different content that is going to be of great interest and value.
Suffice to say, I’m REALLY excited to bring you the revamped site which, on a personal note, I know will be much more congruent with where I see myself and my work these days… The ‘me’ that regular followers have come to know well through my social media etc.
So, watch this space, as they say.
This is just a quick post to keep you updated and I’ll be sharing more insights as the process of building the new site progresses. In the meantime, be sure to look me up on Instagram etc (@gilesbabbidge) if you’re not already following my daily antics there.
