What’s the sure fire way to give your creativity a much-needed kick up the backside?
For me – and, full disclosure, I’m going through this process right now – the formula goes something like this:
Slow down – Simplify – Create
I’ll be honest, with everything that’s gone on over recent months, I’ve found myself looking for clarity, a change of pace, less noise, less distraction and more peace within my environment.
My values may not have changed, but I know my priorities have certainly evolved as a result of everything that I’ve gone through.
So I’m making the conscious effort to slow things down, take stock of what I actually want (life, career etc) and cut out the noise and general busyness as best I can.
Cameras are great. Technology is great. But I’ve been in this game long enough to go full circle and realise that these tools (for that is all they really are)… well, they can present a distraction and a creative block within themselves.
So I’m focusing simply on the process of creating. I know the rest will follow.
Whichever camera setup I choose is only relevant insofar as it’s a means to an end – employed because of its specific qualities which lend themselves to my own experimental and explorative process of creating imagery. Could be digital, could be film, whatever…
So there you have it. It’s time to look inward, be honest and grateful, and get out there and embrace what I have always loved doing – being a creative.
