Why We Need Microadventures

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how/why so many people are couped up all week, surrounded by glass and concrete, essentially slaves to their respective lifestyles.

For some, the restrictions will be self-imposed, for one reason or another – although work commitments at the hands of ‘The Man’ are repeatedly cited as reasons why they don’t get to experience the outdoors as much as they’d like.

Regardless of whether it’s time (or, specifically, lack thereof), money, kit, whatever, there are always great little escapes and experiences to be had right on our doorsteps – you just need to seek out and embrace them, even mid-week!

I recently came across the great little video you see below, just one of Alastair Humphreys’ Microadventures series. It really resonated with me as, just of late, my own personal outdoors activity has had to take a back seat. I always get frustrated, the more time I spend without at least a quick vist to a local woodland and I’m well overdue my next outing.

Such a great idea, low-cost and low-effort, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t all be able to embrace this sort of thing.

Anyway, enjoy the video and let me know your thoughts.
