Looking Back And Looking Forward: 2018-2019

I’ve never been one for setting New Year resolutions. Rather, I believe in having goals and working hard towards achieving them.

You might remember that I used to do a yearly review / goal-setting post here on TAP. It’s been a while since the last one so, with January just around the corner, I thought it might be a good time to re-visit the idea.

I’ll save you all the details, but 2018 has been something of an up-and-down year for me. There’s been a lot going on and I’ve had to work through a lot of disruptions and frustrations; I documented some of these variously along the way.

But it hasn’t all been doom and gloom. There have been some great bits, too, including making new connections, visiting some lovely areas of the country and – most importantly – working hard on my own personal development (a real highlight).

That last one has been a very interesting process – something which has made my work life all the more focused. At times emotional and at other times exhilarating, I’ve loved every minute of the journey and I’m really looking forward to building on what I’ve learned over the past 6 months in particular.

So… My goals for 2019.

Rather than make an epically-long list, I’m going to keep things simple here. In each of the following (no particular order), there will likely be variations and I view them with the expectation of tweaking and extending them as opportunities arise.

By writing the following, I’m holding myself accountable… Ask me how I did in 12 months’ time!

1. Outdoor Impact package… more people need to benefit from this

2. Fully immerse myself in the art of storytelling – research & education

3. Post TAP content much more regularly

4. Prioritise myself – concentrate on fitness & physique, schedule regular time out etc

5. Take on long-distance walking challenges, raising money for charity

6. Schedule monthly camping trips – especially in the hammock!

7. Extend collaborations with outdoor organisations and individuals

8. Upgrade lighting kit

And that’s it. A short, sharp run-down of some of the priorities which I have in my sights for the coming year.

It’s going to be a busy and exciting one for sure… and I can’t wait to share my exploits with you as they happen!
